My wife has been such a wonderful wife and mother
that I want to buy her a mothers ring. Are they all pretty much the same?

There are several ways to buy a mothers ring
and the most important is to give your jeweler at least a weeks notice before ordering.

The most popular way of ordering a mothers ring is with the children’s birthstones only.

The next most popular way is with the mother and the children’s birthstones
combined and finally with the father, mother and children’s birthstones combined.

Another consideration is whether the stones are genuine or synthetic.

The Genuine birthstones are as follows.

January; Garnet $9
February; Amethyst $9
March; Aquamarine $14
April; Diamond $160
May; Emerald $72
June your choice; Alexandrite about $140 or cultured Pearl $10
July; Ruby $40
August; Peridot $9
September; Blue Sapphire $22
October; Opal $6 or Pink Tourmaline $10
November; Citrine$9 or Yellow Topaz $14
December; Blue Zircon $10

Prices shown are approximate for 3mm stones.
Synthetic are $3 each.

When selecting a ring mounting the most important factor is it pennyweight (DWT).
One ounce equals 20 DWT.

A good rule of thumb to use for ladies rings is no mountings less than 2 DWT.

Selecting the karat gold is a cost factor and a wear factor.

14kt is softer than 10kt but will not tarnish as easily.
10kt is less expensive and wears better but does tend to tarnish.
