How can I take care of my jewelry?

Very little care is needed for most of your jewelry.

Getting your jewelry checked by experts is probably one of the
most importantsteps you can take to prevent stone loss from wear.

If you have owned your jewelry for more than 10 years,
and you have not had your prongs and settings checked by an expert,
you are probably at risk of losing your diamonds or gemstones.

It takes very little time to have your rings checked.

Most fine jewelry stores offer this service at no charge,
with the added benefit of having your jewelry cleaned.

Other items besides the prongs on your jewelry will also wear out.

If you have a pendant (necklace) that is worn on a fine chain,
the chain will tend to saw through the bail (part that the chain slides through).

An easy way to prevent the loss of a pendant
is to make periodic inspections of the bail to see if it is wearing thin.

One of the most frequent problems we see today
is ruined plastic crystals on watches due to the use of hair spray and perfumes.

When applying perfume or hair spray simply do not wear your watch
or take extra care not to spray the crystal.

These alcohol based products also have a tendency
to cause the glue used to install pearls into jewelry to fail,
and thus cause the loss of the pearl itself.

Most experts agree that these and other commonly used beauty products
will cause long term damage to cultured pearls themselves.

These same products may cause damage to opals, so take care when using them.
